Conquering Fear: From Lion's Roar to Courage's Roar
Have you ever found yourself gripped by an irrational fear? A fear that, to others, might seem trivial, but to you, it's a towering, insurmountable wall?
Today, we unfold a tale of fear and the journey to conquering it.
When I was young, every Chinese New Year, my family would go to my grandma's village house. That year, our relatives invited a lion dance troupe. I remember those two lions, crouching in front of the altar, getting ready to "cai qing". Their movements were nimble and adorable, drawing my curiosity.
As I approached one of the lions, the drums and gongs sound, the rhythm speeds up, and the lion leaps up from the ground.
This sudden movement triggers a fear that would linger for nearly three decades.
Every Chinese New Year, the sight of lion dances and mascots would send me running in the opposite direction. Even the innocent mascots at theme parks became figures of terror.
This fear was so deeply ingrained that it manifested in recurring nightmares of a giant canine creature, causing sleepless nights filled with tears.
Years turned into decades, and the fear persisted. But I was not content with living in the shadow of this fear. This led to a quest for overcoming it, a journey that included psychologists, hypnotherapy, past life regression therapy, counseling, and spiritual healing.
The turning point came at the age of thirty-three, when after nearly thirty years of living in the grip of this fear, I decided to face it head-on. The once-feared lion dances no longer triggered a racing heart, cold hands and feet, or a sense of weakness. Mascots became harmless figures rather than terrifying monsters.
This tale of transformation is a testament to the power of resilience and courage. It shows us that no matter how deep-seated our fears might be, we have the power to overcome them.
It's a journey of self-discovery, of confronting our deepest fears and emerging victorious.
Remember, fears are but shadows that dwindle when faced with the light of courage. So, if there's a fear you've been living with, know this: You have the strength to overcome it. You have the power to transform your fear into courage.
Don't give up on yourself. Face your fears, and you'll find that they're not as insurmountable as they seem.
Why did I choose to change my name to "Yunnie"?
I wanted to share a little update with you all about a change I've made - I've decided to change my English name to 'Yunnie'. This decision is inspired by the deeper meanings behind my Chinese name '筠霓' (Yún Ní).
The name 'Yunnie' aligns more closely with my Chinese name, and here's why I made this change:
My Chinese name, '筠霓', carries significant symbolism. '筠' embodies the essence of bamboo, reminding me of its resilient and flexible nature. Just like bamboo, I strive to approach life with resilience and adaptability, bending but not breaking in the face of challenges. '霓' represents the beautiful halo of light that appears after the rain, reminding me to seek the brightness and hope even in cloudy moments.
The decision to adopt 'Yunnie' over my previous name 'Connie' was driven by the desire to harmonise with the values encapsulated in '筠霓'. In 'Connie', the 'Co' suggests a closed-off state, centered around oneself. Wanting to embrace an open-hearted approach, I looked for a name that resonated with the concept of opening up and connecting positively with the world.
In 'Yunnie', the 'Yu' element evokes an upward and open shape, symbolising the journey of opening up my inner self, inviting in positivity and love, and embracing the light that the world has to offer. It encapsulates the aspiration to approach life with an open mind and heart, spreading positivity and embracing the world's beauty.
I believe that names carry energy and meaning, and this change reflects my ongoing journey of personal growth and self-discovery. Thank you all for your support and understanding as I embrace this new chapter as 'Yunnie'.
Wishing you all a radiant journey ahead, filled with love and light.
How I Met My Husband: A Journey of Attraction and Letting Go
Back in 2011, I embarked on a soul-searching silent retreat in the breathtaking beauty of Bali. Little did I know that this journey of self-discovery would lead me to find the love of my life. During that transformative trip, I stumbled upon an article that spoke about the power of attracting your future life partner by placing yourself in environments conducive to meeting them. The article urged readers to be clear about the kind of person they wanted to attract and the qualities they wished to avoid. This idea struck a chord deep within me, prompting a profound self-reflection.
As I contemplated my desires and intentions, I realized that finding the life partner I truly wanted might not happen within the confines of my usual working environment—a school setting. I knew I needed to venture beyond my comfort zone and explore new avenues to increase my chances of meeting the right person.
With newfound determination, I decided to take action and signed up for dating events hosted by various dating agencies. I believed that by putting myself out there and being open to new experiences, I would attract the person meant for me. I poured my heart into these endeavors, hoping to connect with someone who would understand and cherish me.
However, despite my efforts, the journey was not without its challenges. Time passed, and I still hadn't found the partner I envisioned. But I refused to lose hope, knowing that the universe had its own timing.
In 2014, I decided to take a different approach and registered with Lunch Actually, a dating service that offered personalized matching. Recognising the value of finding someone who truly resonated with my heart and values, I invested in each dating session with sincerity and openness.
Then, in 2017, on the ninth date facilitated by Lunch Actually, something magical happened. I met my husband, and the connection was undeniable. As we spent more time together, it became increasingly clear that he was the one I had been seeking—a perfect match in every sense.
Our love blossomed, and the following year, we took a leap of faith and decided to tie the knot. It was a joyous celebration of love and a testament to the power of the Law of Attraction.
Throughout this journey, I held steadfast to the belief that letting go of what I didn't want was essential to create space for the right things to naturally flow into my life. I embraced the idea that true love would find its way to me when the time was right.
Today, I stand beside my loving husband, grateful for the winding path that led me to him. May my story inspire you to believe in the power of attraction and the beauty of letting go. Trust that the universe is conspiring to bring you what your heart truly desires, and when the time is right, love will find its way to you too.
Why I learn Korean?
Back in 2020, I decided to embark on a language learning journey, and little did I know that picking up Korean would lead me to discover the history and culture of Korea and the enchanting world of Eastern Philosophy.
The South Korea Flag & I-Ching:
Let's talk about the mesmerizing South Korean flag, the taegeukgi! This beautiful flag represents the very essence of a nation - the land, the people, and the government, all harmoniously blended into one captivating symbol. The red and blue circle, or taegeuk, in the middle is a profound representation of the dual forces of nature - the mighty yang and the gentle yin, constantly flowing and changing just like life itself. The trigrams on the flag also remind us of the cosmic balance and the cyclical nature of the universe.
Eastern Philosophy & Hangul:
Hangul, the Korean writing system, was developed by the ingenious Great King Sejong. Hangul beautifully reflects the core principles of Eastern Philosophy, specifically the yin-yang cosmology. The vowels were ingeniously designed based on the three fundamental components of the universe - Heaven ( ㅇ ), Earth (ㅡ), and Man (ㅣ). These vowels encompass the circular shape of heaven, the flatness of the earth, and the standing position of a human being, showcasing the harmony between the macrocosm and microcosm.
Embracing Korean Culture:
On top of all this profound wisdom, the Korean dramas and reality shows played a role in igniting my love for the language. The captivating stories, heartfelt emotions, and rich cultural experiences depicted in these shows have made learning Korean an absolute joy! It's incredible how entertainment can be a gateway to learning about a whole new world.
In a nutshell, my journey into learning the Korean language has been an enlightening and uplifting experience. The profound symbolism of the Korean flag, the ancient wisdom of the I-Ching, the harmony of Eastern Philosophy in Hangul, and the delightful Korean entertainment have all woven together into a beautiful tapestry of growth and knowledge.
So I encourage you to explore new languages and cultures, for they have the power to expand our horizons and deepen our understanding of the world around us.
